Well SLAPT.ME

I, like a lot of SL merchants and residents, was taken by surprise by the changes on XStreet. I have been a supporter of SLexchange, as it was originally named, and Xstreet for a long time. Zak has had some scripts and toys he has created out there for years. When I closed Wedding Elegance, I put all of my cakes out on XStreet because it was a great place to have them if someone asked about buying one. I didn't have to keep up a store but I could tell people where to buy them. I don't market the cakes and I since there are several hundred wedding cakes and mine start with W, they don't come up on the first few pages. I do not want to pay L$10 per month per item to keep an inventory on Xstreet. I can put out a vendor on the sim or at the Figure 8 Club but it's out of place and a waste of prims.

After all the news about the changes I did some research on alternate sites and I decided to post the cakes on SLAPT.ME. We now have a SLAPT.ME terminal on Hatteras and anyone can come there to add money or manage their account. The slapt.me vendor box was also easy to set up and load with my inventory. The website is easy to use. It's not as refined as some of its competitors, but I am sure as it gains in popularity it will improve.
If you are interested in signing a petition about the changes to XStreet, check out http://www.fashionwithoutfreebies.com. They have some great resources on the issue.

Remembering on Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day here in the US. I know lots of other countries have also had days to honor their veterans. I think it is important to honor the people who make such sacrifices for their country. It takes a lot of strength of character to be willing to fight and die for your country no matter what you believe politically. Thank you to everyone who is out there fighting now for our safety and freedom. Thank you to those who have lost their lives fighting so that we can be free. Hopefully, some day we will get to the point that we do not need wars and violence to settle our differences, but until then, thank you.

Cheesecake Post?

I have been playing around with pics again. I realized that my profile pic had not been updated since - all gasp in unison - April! That's like 5 years in SL time. The other night I took a bunch of pics and today I finally had some time to start playing around.

I seem to get stuck in a rut sometimes on pics, but it keeps me amused. I like to work in black in white, but sometimes my hair is so white it over powers a black and white image. This one in muted color seems to do ok. It's a bit soft and lady like, but not to loud. Anyway I will keep playing around and see what I can fix up. Have a good week everyone.

Lazy Saturday

My alter-ego in RL has to work today, so I'm taking some time to relax here in SL. I love sitting up in the greenhouse and enjoying the calm and the sounds of the fountains. I also like the wildlife, as long as she doesn't start eating all the plants. SL is great about allowing you to use all sorts of things as furniture. Our large rabbit here, Couch, is very relaxing. I don't think an extra large bunny would work well in RL as a den sofa. Keeping it clean would be an issue because she is probably a bit large for the bath tub. I don't think rabbits like water anyway. The Bunny Chow would also get expensive. I like not having to feed the den furniture. I'm glad I can enjoy such fun furniture here in SL and not having to deal with the drawbacks from RL. Have a great week everyone!

Halloween is on its way!

We have started decorating the sim for Halloween. We are having a lot of fun and some very unique ideas have come out. You need to drop by and see what is going on. Zak, he's so creative, has figured out a way to turn all of the water in the sim blood red. (He has it for sale on Xstreet if your interested.) I have put out a nice little display at Figure 8. It is sort of a reminiscence of some mass murders in history. We are finishing up some fun and creepy displays at the mall too. Hopefully we will be finished with everything in a few days. Then we will do a really killer Halloween party on the sim. Keep your eyeballs peeled for more info! Have a great week- CJ

Love is a happy Llama!

Well, or in this case and alpacka! Zak bought me this cute gift yesterday. I love the fun and fanciful things that can be found here in SL. I am going to put him in the new greenhouse. Hopefully he won't nibble on all the plants and make a mess.

Well, this is an uncomplicated post for an uncomplicated week. Sunggles - CJ

Write me a romance novel.

We have been venturing out and going to some new clubs in SL this week. I have noticed a disturbing trend in emoting. If you tip a dancer or host you will get a "thank you" that rivals War and Peace! One guy filled up the whole chat screen with his thank you including how he was going to dance up next to me and throw me on the floor and ravage me. I was wondering where you get "ravage" pose balls in world. Don't get me wrong, I certainly understand the value of a good, well written thank you note, but this goes a bit to the extreme. It also brings up another issue.

Most of the men that I know can not speak or write anything descriptive about their actions or feelings if forced to with a gun at their head. Writing something like: Tom Evans looks at CJ and locks eyes with her from across the dance floor. Slowly he moves toward her undulating his body in time with the music. He focuses on her cleavage as it heaves while she dances to the throbbing beat of the music. As he gets closer his nostrils fill with the intoxicating scent of her perfume. He also notices the shine of her hair under the glow of the neon green lights. As he dances up beside her she smiles and licks her lips seductively. He whispers in her ear, "Thank you so much for the tip."

These kinds of "thank you" statements just go over the top to me. Are there guys out there working at clubs who scour Google books for cheap Harlequin novels to quote? Do they spend their down time reading up on how to describe her bosom heaving? Do they secretly read Nora Roberts on their lunch breaks? You see where I'm going with this line of thought? Most people who are intimately familiar with this genre of literature are not men at all. I am certainly fine with understanding that people in SL are who they want to present themselves as, but do the club owners not see that this is a bit creepy? Anyway, this is a trend that I'm sure will go the way of bling and loud shoes. Until then, just make sure your quoting some good romance authors and not just the cheap stuff!

Long Week!

It's been a long week. I think it is really time to lay around on the beach and rest and relax.

Today is a busy day too. Thorn and Bobo had their big hunt at their store. Thorn has an amazing jewelry store that you have heard me talk about many times and Bobo's Masquerade has some incredible mens and womens clothes. They have also added gardens and an underwater fantasy world. It's a very romantic place to hang out with your sweetie, or go and relax. It as been blogged about on The Arbor Restaurant Blog and the author posted some great pics. You should check them out.

We are also having a party at the Figure 8 Island Club tonight. Come check it out from 5:00 SLT - 7:00 SLT. DJ fireboy will be doing his usual outstanding job of playing your favorites. It's definately time to relax and hang out.

Bobo's Masquerade Aniversary Celebration!

One of my favorite designers and friends, Bobo Rosselsprung is celebrating 2 years of having one of the most unique fashion lines in SL. Bobo is so creative and has an eye for color and flair. If you go to Bobo's store, you can see the amazing evening gowns he designs as well as the great men's clothes. There are a ton of prizes to be won all month. Every 5th customer during the whole month wins a gift certificate from $L50 up to $3,200!!!! You can transfer the gift card to make a fabulous gift if you want to. There are also some amazing gifts of jewelry and clothes that you can win. I have a special spot for wedding gowns, so I took some special pictures at Wedding Elegance in Bobo's Wedding Gown. It is an amazing dress that makes any woman look like a princess on her special day. Please check out Bobo's Masquerade this month, you should anyway because he has amazing designs, but especially during the month of June!

Is this a feature or a bug?

I'm feeling a bit peculiar today. Almost like my head is light and filled with nothing. Wait, it is filled with nothing, except my eyes. I'm trying out the new release candidate and this one is a new "feature" You too can try partial invisibility. I have seen my arms and torso disappear too, but the invisible head was the coolest. I'm glad we all are flexible and just roll with the situations and have fun. Enjoy your week! - CJ

All these years and another Cabbage Patch doll?

Many many years ago when I was a small child I became infatuated with a beautiful doll. She has yarn for hair and a pug nose. Her skin was like pantyhose stretched over fluffy stuff. She was an original Xavier Robert's adoption doll and she became the light of my life. I played with her, bathed her with Fantastic, like the instruction said, and forced my Mom to buy more real baby clothes for her than I should have. But hey, Mom did it, so don't blame me. She was an adult. I was not. But Carolina, my doll, and I had many many adventures and I still have her sitting on the guest bed at our house.

Fast forward a few years. No, I am not telling you specifically how many, but if you get the Cabbage Patch theme of the article, you can probably have a rough estimate. Several weeks ago we heard that the company in SL that created the 3 cats we have had, 2 of which could give Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer a run for their money, had started making babies. (They crashed a sim. It was great fun.) Our last cat kept falling off the side of the house into the water. I'm glad cats have 9 lives. Now, for those of you who know us, understand that to us, babies are like kitties or doggies. We like kitties and doggies in RL, we know our limits and we are NOT ready for RL people babies. So, knowing our limits, I started looking at these SL babies. I am not one to spend all my money on the most expensive thing I see. I know the baby thing is going to be a flash in the pan, and she/he will end up on the bed. I don't see a fully furnished nursery here, but you never know. Sometime, if your going to do something, it's worth overdoing it but I don't see $L5,000 for the baby and then another $L2,500 for the nursery. Although the boy nursery was great. The girl nursery was way to generic. A friend has a Heaven Sent by Sh2 baby. I checked them out. They were very afordable and they have all sorts of options. I proudly purchased a neko baby. (Those of you who know me, remember I was a neko for several years. ) She resembles my Caroline, my old doll, but we have named her Anderia, after a dear friend. They are fully customizable. I have her in Pink Hola Kitty Pjs. (No I don't want some legal group sending me a take down letter.) They have a full range of options at the shop. If you and your SL honey want to RP having a baby, you can. They provide all the shapes, AO, poses, you name it. I will play with the baby, freak out some friends and then probably put her on the bed, but just like RL, you have to cut loose in SL sometimes.

It's almost Summer!

I have been in the mood for summer all day today. I found this great summer dress yesterday and it inspired me. I think Zak and I are going to have to start planning a fun summer vacation. Head someplace nice and hot and tropical. Maybe down to Key West, or Miami, or somewhere else fun. It's been a while since we have taken off and headed on a good trip for over a week. We both like to lay out on the beach or by the pool. We also have fun finding unique places to eat. Hopefully we will be able to start planning soon. Until then, I'll just start the vacation in my head, or on the computer. Have a great week.

Weekend Party Time!

It was time to kick back with 3 hunky guys. That is the one thing about SL, there is never a drought of friends or family to hang out with. We have had fun with the party deck and it's nice now that it's spring and we can really use it. I hope you have a good time with your friends and family this great spring weekend. I've even heard it's warm in Canada this weekend.

It's Spring and the Fairies are out!!!

We went to the spring Shengri La Fashion Institute rave tonight.   They have one of the best DJs in SL, Qee Nishi, and no I don't know her personally.  I really enjoy her music a few times a year at the Shengri La raves.  She plays at a club in West Coast time, and you all know how big I am on staying up all night.  These rave parties are always great because Shenlei Flasheart goes all out with the build for the parties.   Tonight was complete with huge flowers and bunnies.  I kept thinking the bunnies would look better in chocolate, but that could have been the particles flying around that invaded my brain.   This was truly a great way to end a long week.  Now I need to go find a spring fairy outfit.    Cheers!

Shopping in SL is always Unique!

Zak and I were messing around today searching for some new dances.  We decided to check out Akeyo Dance Animations since Zak had seen some of their dances earlier at a club.  I love going to stores and finding a serendipty!   They also sell art, sculpture, and furniture.   All three looked amazing.  I especially like the donut pillow sets.  They even taste good.   If you have time, and you want a new place to check out,  run by.  They also have some nice dances and you won't see everyone doing the same one you have in your chim.

Please forgive me!

I have been horrible, and I apologize. Things have been nuts and I have fallen down on my blogging responsibilities. We had a big wedding with over 70 people invited in March, I've been working a set of photos for a friend, and I've been redesigning the website for Wedding Elegance. So, I promise I haven't been slacking. I am going to note that Zak and I entered the Elixir Gods of the 23rd Century contest. We are happy. We won. The pic is called Zeus Conquers and is based on some the mythology of Zeus finding young women to play with. I hope everyone has a great start of Spring and I promise to do better in the next few weeks.

Valentines Will Be Here Again!

I am sitting here contemplating that it is already almost Valentines Day, again.  It's not my favorite holiday because restaurants are crowded and everyone has all of these false expectations of romance and love.  I also have personal reasons for ignoring Valentines,  my rl birthday is on the 18th and Valentines distracts everyone around me from the real holiday of the month.  I would rather have a better birthday gift than to have Zak spend money on flowers and stuff for Valentines and then do it again the next week.  Ok,  my selfishness aside,  there are some good things about the holiday of love.

SL seems to do a good job with Valentines.  Everyone breaks out their best t-shirts with candy conversation hearts, chocolate, and teddy bears.  There are also usually some good freebie hunts.  You can actually dress up as cupid in SL and not look entirely stupid.  If you give your favorite person flowers,  they won't die and look bad in a few days.  And there are some really romantic clubs to go to for a nice evening of slow dancing and snuggling.  SL is also great because you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a really special night.
If you don't have a special someone there also usually a lot of anti-valentines parties going on too, so you can commiserate with everyone else about how the holiday sucks.  And who knows, you might meet someone and bond over your distaste for Valentines.
I think I need to quit while I am ahead on this post.  Have a wonderful week, and have fun next weekend.

Elixir Couples in Camo Contest Winners!

I am so excited.  Zak and I entered the Couples in Camo photo contest by Elixir, and we were one of the winners!   Elixir makes the only latex clothing I will wear.  I'm picky and their designs are very detailed and the textures are great.   You don't look like your wearing a cheap super hero outfit.  They have a variety of pants, tops, jackets, dresses, and any other type of accessory you could need to go with them.  Our friends Phinn and Xander were also winners.   Check out the Elixir Blog after Sunday February 1, 2009 to see all the winners.   Thanks again Elf Juran and Khorus Magne for such a great line of clothing and great stores.   Have a good week everyone!

A good day for darkness.

Today is a dark day for women everywhere.  Kay Yow, the basketball coach for NC State University passed away last night after a long battle with breast cancer.  I never met her, but always admired her strength and caring as it was portrayed in the press.   I am always proud to see women who want to be role models and show that we can be strong, caring, loving, and not what everyone thinks we should be.   Say a prayer tonight for all the women who have been your role model or mentor, and try to be one for someone else.

PEER

PEER is a great shop owned by a very good friend, Phinneas Vella. Phinn creates very sophisticated shapes and sells them with a full styling card for L$500. The card details what skin, hair, and clothes the models are wearing in the ad pictures.

Phinn has also recently introduced a line of witty shirts. I am wearing the Bride shirt from a set of Bride and Groom shirts he designed for Wedding Elegance. The shirts all have catchy sayings for SL, like Prim Whore, Rezzing, and other clever remarks. They are a steal at L$50. Come check out PEER and all the other great shops at Hatteras Plaza.

Beefcake! At Hatteras Plaza

Beefcake  is a clothing store for the hot male avatar!   Tylo Mabellon is the designer and he makes incredibly detailed jeans,  t-shirts, hoodies, tanks, and men's briefs.  The shop sells great looking men's active wear at really good prices.  There is a wonderful selection of colors and t-shirt designs.  He has a smaller store at Hatteras but there is a LM to his larger flagship store in this shop.   We are really pleased to have Beefcake as our anchor store at Hatteras.  Please take some time and come check it out.

More store profiles to come!   Have a great week.     http://slurl.com/secondlife/Hatteras%20Island/34/225/22

New Mall at Hatteras Plaza

I never imagined being a mall owner.  In RL I grew up in retail.  My dad worked for a department store for 42 years.  They opened the mall in my home town when I was 3.  From then on I was at the mall 3-4 times a week.  Mainly because Dad worked there and if we wanted to see him we had to go there.  :-)  Then I started working there when I was 15.  I never thought I would own a mall.  Well you never know what you will get into, especially in SL.  For the next couple of posts I will highlight each store in the mall.   For tonight I will just tell you about the mall.   It's called Hatteras Plaza and it's located on Hatteras Island.  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Hatteras%20Island/137/240/25  is the SLURL.  The build was done by Ander Galthie.  He has a great eye and does a wonderful job with textures.  A lot of builders don't have the focus on details that Ander does.  There are eight stores in the first phase.  We are also in construction of a phase II.   Please take a few minutes out of your SL day and come by to see us.   There a lot of great stores and we promise to keep improving and expanding.

Happy New Year!

To all our friends in SL, have a happy and wonderful New Year! Thank you for all the fun of the past year and we look forward to many more days and nights of fun in 2009. - Love CJ & Zak
